Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School selected to provide high-quality professional development to teachers and leaders

Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School, a proud member of Leigh Academies Trust, is delighted to announce that it has been invited by the Department for Education to lead one of its new Teaching School Hubs.

Teaching School Hubs will be school-led centres of excellence for teacher and leadership training and development. The DfE vision for these centres is that they will ‘provide high quality professional development to teachers at all stages of their career. They will play a significant role in delivering the Early Career Framework and seek to be involved in the delivery of new Specialist National Professional Qualifications and Leadership NPQs. They will deliver school-based Initial Teacher Training and will promote and deliver other high-quality evidence-based professional development to school leaders and teachers.’

As the lead school for the Kent and Medway Maths Hub and with ten years’ experience in leading the highly successful Medway Teaching School Alliance, Sir Joseph Williamson’s is best placed to work with partners across the region to serve the needs of teachers and leaders.  Together we will serve a common goal in ensuring that the children of the Medway, Gravesham and Dartford areas, as well as the children served by all the schools in Leigh Academies Trust, receive education from the very best staff with access to world class training and development.

Simon Beamish – CEO of Leigh Academies Trust

I am delighted with the government’s decision to award teaching school hub status to Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School for Medway, Gravesham and Dartford. As a consistently high-performing school within one of the UK’s largest and best-established multi-academy trusts, it is superbly positioned to offer high-quality professional development to the education sector across the North Kent and Medway region.

Roger Pope – Principal at Kingsbridge Academy & Chairman of NCTL

This is a tremendous programme that offers teachers world-class support along a clear career pathway. Having piloted the programme for a year, we have seen the enthusiastic response from schools and the positive difference the programme is making to teachers.

Mark Beyer-Woodgate, Director of the Chafford Hundred Teaching School Hub, Essex
